I just clicked on to your blog and I love it! You sound just like my husband and me - cooking and baking right along side each other. Can't wait to keep reading and would love to try the gratin. Best of luck!

Yum. I am going to use this recipe and attempt to make my own crust. My first time ever making a pie. I don't even really like pie, but I might after laboring over this one.

Oooh a crust guard! The foil was the most annoying thing about the apple pie I made a few weeks ago. I didn't even mind the peeling or cutting by hand (because at some point I ceased to have an apple slicer? Dunno why.) I did the boxed crust, too.

I also was interested in this recipe in CL AND my husband Jake and I just had the exact same conversation about sweet potato's and butternut squash! I love it, he just isn't so sure.

I am the same way with pie crust. Someone told me that making the dough in the food processor is a good way to do it.

I love those apple cut outs! Really cute pie

I always cheat on the crust, too. I just haven't had any luck with homemade ones yet. Love the PC cutters and I need one of those guards. The thing I hate most about making pies is the stupid foil around the edges. So frustrating....
Now I want some pie...yum.

I foresee that you and I will have to have a pie-baking day where I can be Mr. Miyagi and help you conquer your pie crust fears :) Still, the frozen ones are not bad by any means.
Also, this thing is absolute genius, and not that expensive. Good for pies and also picky children who refuse to eat the nutritious peel.
